HYPER-500 Wins the EXPANDEO 2026 EARSC Product Award

O

pen Cosmos has been awarded the prestigious EXPANDEO 2026 Product Award by the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC) for its flagship product, HYPER-500. This annual award recognised the most innovative commercial Earth Observation product helping to drive progress within the industry.

HYPER-500 represents a fundamental shift away from traditional satellite operations by processing data directly at the source. The system integrates high-fidelity, 5-meter spatial resolution hyperspectral imagery with an advanced on-board processing engine.

Overcoming the Orbit-to-Ground Data Bottleneck

Traditionally, downlinking high-dimensional hyperspectral data cubes to ground stations for analysis creates significant delivery delays for customers. Depending on factors like ground station proximity and pass availability, getting full raw images down to Earth can take anywhere from 3 hours to 1 or 2 days.

HYPER-500 eliminates data bottlenecks via an onboard Data-Reduction-to-Insight pipeline. By interpreting 32-band Visible and Near-Infrared (VNIR) data in orbit, the satellite transmits lightweight intelligence packets through Inter-Satellite Links (ISL), delivering actionable insights to users in near real-time Thanks to these unique capabilities, HYPER-500 support innovative high-impact use cases:

Maritime Intelligence in partnership with Ubotica Technologies: Local processing allows for the high-confidence identification of non-cooperative "dark vessels" attempting to spoof their identities, calculating precise ship trajectories from wake patterns, and tracking surrounding pollution trails.

Environmental Monitoring in partnership with the National Observatory of Athens: Isolating narrow atomic emission peaks from specific elements allows the onboard algorithms to accurately map active flame fronts through dense smoke plumes, prioritizing this critical data for immediate downlink.

Precision Agriculture in partnership with Messium: Distinguishing biomass signals from exact canopy chemistry to monitor crop health, measure nitrogen content and optimize the fertilizer usage saving costs and resources on land management.

Looking Ahead: OpenConstellation 1.0 Launching in 2026

The success of HYPER-500 is only the beginning of a broader vision for scalable, accessible space intelligence. OpenConstellation 1.0 will officially launch in 2026, marking a significant milestone in our mission to democratize Earth Observation data, and expanding our global coverage to enable enterprises, research institutions, and governments.
