We are solving the world’s biggest challenges from space, using insights from satellite data to provide businesses, governments and researchers access to more readily available information than ever before.
We believe in doing this sustainably - our satellites are small but powerful, achieving the same performance with less impact on our planet. We believe in creating a culture of innovation and collaboration - you will have autonomy and ownership in your role, no matter how new you are. We believe in flexibility - we’re more interested in your contributions than when or where you’re working.
We believe in building relationships - from monthly team days to our annual summer birthday party, nothing beats catching up in person. The great thing is that you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work in the space sector! Open Cosmos needs a diverse set of talent and skills to keep us successful.
Aim high go beyond is the OC mantra - our teams support each other pushing science to the limits, making the impossible, possible
We're flexible!
Prefer to mostly WFH? That's fine! Hybrid? Great! Need to take 30 mins at 3pm to get the kids from school? Go ahead! We're more interested in your contributions than when and where you're working
Our facilities
Working on our hardware? Look no further than our state of the art lab. Prefer to be in an office sometimes? All the time? Our office has everything you need for productive working, including drinks and snacks to keep you fuelled through the day.
Enhanced parental leave
Adding to your family is stressful enough without worrying about pay during those precious first few weeks and months. The UK team enjoy enhanced pay during parts of their statutory maternity, paternity or adoption leave

Team days and social events
Getting to see our colleagues in person, especially when we work in different countries, is so important. We hold monthly team days, quarterly all company catch ups, summer parties and Christmas celebrations
Meet our Open Cosmonauts
For some of us, working in the space sector is the realisation of a lifelong dream. For others, it’s a chance to work somewhere that is contributing to the good of society. But we all have one thing in common - to aim high and go beyond. Our Cosmonauts have answered a few questions about what its like to work here.

Can you describe the culture here at OC?
The space industry, especially for smaller companies, is certainly intense. It can’t be denied that all companies experience tough times, especially recently with launch failures earlier in the year. Open Cosmos in general deals with this well, when things go wrong I have never seen attempts at placing blame, the emphasis is always on preventing it from happening again, fixing the problem, and moving forward.

Has working at OC lived up to your expectations?
Absolutely! I joined Open Cosmos because I’ve always been a space enthusiast but I quickly discovered that this is what a good organisation should look like. The way they treat their staff, the way they prioritise mental health. Everyone, from the CEO down, is very open and transparent. I don’t think this is something you find in many organisations.

What project at Open Cosmos excites you the most right now?
I'm excited about two new challenges: improving our image processing techniques and refining our automatic satellite tasking scheduler. Though I'm new to these areas, I'm enjoying exploring different approaches to achieve the best possible results. These tasks are just a part of my overall passion for creating tools that OpenApp users truly enjoy using.

What would you say to anyone looking to join Open Cosmos?
I’d say do it! Come and join us! Open Cosmos is a really fun place to work but you also learn a lot too. The best part for me was my first launch earlier this year. I saw all my hard work pay off with a satellite in orbit, doing what we built it to do.

What does a typical day at Open Cosmos look like?
Most days I work from home with the option to work from the Harwell office whenever I like. The majority of my time is spent programming in either Golang, Java or Python - one day I may be working on developing astrodynamics models, on another I'll be writing code to decode satellite telemetry. There's no shortage of impactful and engaging work at Open Cosmos!

What led you to apply for a role at Open Cosmos?
I was searching for a role that would give me the flexibility I needed as a working Mum, with the career progression that would suit my ambitions. I also wanted to feel part of a team who were working toward a common goal. From my first interview to my first month in role, I found a team of people who are warm, welcoming but also hugely ambitious. It’s such an exciting time to be at Open Cosmos
